Bobby Rivard was one of the speediest centers in the history of the Fort Wayne Komets. He skated for the Komets parts of 5 seasons. Rivard started his career in Montreal with the Royals of the EPHL in 1959 before joining the IHL and skating in games for Toledo and Indianapolis during the 1960-61 season. The speedy center skated for the Indianapolis Chiefs during the 1961-62 season posting 40 goals and 91 points in 68 games. Rivard joined the Komets for the 1962-63 season, his 4th pro year, registering 20 goals and 56 points in 70 games as the Komets took the IHL Huber Trophy with a regular season record of 35-30-5 and 75 points. Rivard went on to score 8 goals and 10 points in 11 playoff games as the Komets won the 1963 IHL Turner Cup Championship. Rivard rose to the top in 1964-65 leading the Komets with 70 assists and 116 regular season points before leading the K’s to another IHL Turner Cup Championship with 15 points (7 goals, 8 assists) in 10 games. Rivard performed a personal best 42 goals and 133 points in 1965-66 to take the IHL’s Lamoureux Memorial Trophy (regular season scoring champion) before moving on to the American Hockey League in 1966. After 8 seasons in the AHL and serving a stint with Pittsburg in the NHL during the 1967-68 season, Rivard returned to the Komets for 24 games during the 1974-75 season. The Hall-of-Fame Komet center didn’t miss a game from the start of the 1962-63 season to the end of the 1965-66 season registering 319 consecutive games played for an all-time Komet record. During Rivard’s career with the Komets he was voted an IHL First Team All-Star in 1965 and IHL Second Team All-Star in 1966. His 16-year pro career ended in 1975, after a stint with Baltimore in the AHL. Bobby Rivard was inducted into the Komets Hall of Fame in 2004.
