One of the toughest players to ever where a Komet uniform, Cal Purinton played the physical defenseman for the Komets in parts of 9 seasons from 1963 thru 1973 and accumulated 1,223 penalty minutes in 465 games.
Cal was known for teaming at the blueline with Komet Hall of Famer Terry Pembroke and won 2 Turner Cup Championships with the Komets in 1965 and 1973.
The Regina, Saskatchewan native retired from pro hockey after his 1972-73 Komet season. He remained in Fort Wayne until 1980 working for Bunn Trucking Company and managing a van customizing shop.
Currently Cal resides in Sicamons, British Columbia, where he owns a recycle facility with his 2 sisters and brother-in-law.
Cal Purinton was welcomed into the Fort Wayne Komets Hall of Fame in 2002. Cal says his induction into the Hall of Fame is a true honor he will cherish forever and that the Fort Wayne fans are the best fans anywhere.
