George Polinuk came to Fort Wayne to be the Komet trainer in 1955. But he did much more. George did the medical work, managed the equipment, sharpened skates and played goalie in the Komet practices. He even made it into a few Komet games as goaltender. As a matter of fact, he even made it into one game and played against his Fort Wayne teammates when St. Paul goalie Jacque Marcotte was kicked out of the game and no other St. Paul player would play goalie.

Before he came to Fort Wayne, George was the trainer for a junior team in Hamilton, Ontario. It also was a farm club of the Detroit Red Wings.

In 1961-62 George took a position as trainer for the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League. In 1965, after 4 years in Cleveland, George was offered the position of trainer with the California Golden Seals of the NHL but decided to keep his family in Fort Wayne and took a job with AALCO Distributors.

George continued to be involved in hockey around the Fort Wayne area becoming president of the Komet oldtimers for 10 years. During his tenure with the oldtimers George helped raise funds for sending area children to summer camps and participating in Komet oldtimer events within the community.

George and his wife Shirley still reside in Fort Wayne with 3 grown children.

George Polinuk was inducted into the Fort Wayne Komets Hall of Fame in 2002.
